The Parade

In reading we read Vegetables.  The children had a full run through with Miss Rachel of the Christmas Play, The Three Trees.  They will have another later this week in preparation for Thursday’s performance at 6:30 PM.
NOTE:  They want the children to be here one hour before curtain time (5:30 PM) and they are to wear dark clothing, both top and bottom.  No Glitz.

I am happy at the way most of the children have taken to the early readers I put out in the classroom and after some practice they are reading them to me in class.  The children had Spanish today and in Math it was an extended lesson 6-4.  In kindergarten we are striving by the end of the year to get everyone counting to 100 by one’s, fives, and ten’s (we call that skip counting ) and recognizing the numbers 1-100.

Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

Today we read My Dog.  We talked about Thanksgiving and what it means.  And what better to tell the story than Charlie Brown’s Thanksgiving, and the Mayflower Story.  Kids returned to journaling and the topic was Thanksgiving.  Spanish was canceled today but we did some pilgrim art and then the lights went out just as we started math.  Thank you all for coming in early to pick up the kids.  As with these things, you never know how long the power will be out.  We had scheduled a special recycling expert in today for social studies but had to cancel.  I am sure we can get her back in the near future.

In math we did manage to celebrate some IXL milestones –

  • Jack – 2 hours practicing
  • Sabrina – 1,500 problems

Reminder about our Thanksgiving Feast this Wednesday at 11:00 AM.

Yahoo!

For social studies Annie gave a presentation of her room and we talked about places in our community and the people who work there.  Then it was drawing these places and adding them to our community board.

Our Fry’s 100  words of the week are :

  • is
  • you
  • that
  • it
  • he
  • was

They should begin to be instantly recognizable to your child.  Tomorrow I will send home a Fry’s 1st 50  words that, if you wish, you can work on your child with.  The skill is to try to say all the words in a group in one breath.  Have fun!

In their folders are forms for student picture packets if you wish to buy.

Reminder about permission slips for next week’s field trip with the school to Remlinger Farm.
