Day 94

Please start thinking about 100 things you can bring into class to share.  It looks like our 100th day celebration will fall on the Wednesday we come back from mid-winter break.

In reading it was We Pack a Picnic.  In handwriting it was punctuation (. ! ?)and sentence writing.  The kids had PE today. We had computer lab and Miss Anna and Mr. Scott were in to help the children.  It was choice and most did Raz-Kids, which is a great choice.  I kept  a smaller group in the classroom for some guided reading much like I did yesterday with material geared toward their reading level.

We had our End of Unit Math test today.  I have not graded them so I can’s say how they did overall.  This unit again was about addition and subtraction.  The end of day activity was Valentine cards and crafts.

For reading it was This Turtle.  In handwriting it was lowercase “z’ and the end of the alphabet. Today I started smaller directed reading groups which we will do on Wednesday and Thursday.  Anna Paape is monitoring the children in the computer lab while I spend part of that time in small group reading.  Many children journaled today and we had some mentor reading with children reading to children.

In math it was lesson 8-8.  Some children still having some difficulty with understanding and using the + and – signs.  While in many cases they get the answer correct they use the wrong sign.  So if you have some time to practice with them it would be helpful.  Thank you for all the help we now have for stapling our books.  I have a number of volunteers so you may not get a stack to staple for a few weeks as I rotate through the volunteers.  Thanks again to all our volunteers!

In social studies Ezekial returned with his Heritage Float and he discussed his heritage with the class.  We brought down the globe and looked where Guatemala was and how far it was from Washington.

I kicked off our approach to Valentines Day with our valentine bucket for the children to put their valentines in.  I will have them make them in class for each other, parents and for our two service-persons.  Please feel free to bring in some from home but try to insure there is a card for everyone.
