Are You My Dad?

Today we hosted the Grades 2-5 in our classroom for pledge, prayer, Go Noodle, and a lesson from the New Testament on how Jesus healed the leapers and saying Thank You.  We ended with the song Day by Day from Godspell.

1st – Lesson 2-7 Stories about missing parts (subtraction)

Author Visit – We had a wonderful presentation and reading of Are You My Dad?  We learned a lot about penguins and the writing process.  Our author, Leslie Scott-Kelly, signed the children’s books.

Science – We were thrilled to have Jeff and Nancy Wells in to give a presentation on Rocks along with a great display of his collection.  The sand pit and demonstration of erosion and mountain building was amazing.

Day 18

We started our day with pledge, prayer, calendar and Hammer Time from Go noodle.  We also welcomed Keira who is checking out our kindergarten.

Walk-a-Thon

Started our day with pledge, prayer and the Chicken Dance.  Then it was onto Class Dojo Growth Mindset and the power of neurons.  How we can rewire our brain and grow more neurons as we challenge ourselves to try new things.

Started our day with the pledge, prayer and Growth Mindset’s – The Power of Yet

1st Graders – You now have your homework packet in the practice books I sent home today.  Parents – Their homework will be the practice/reteach sheet (front and back from the daily lesson) starting next Monday.  Example.  If our lesson is 2-8 they will do the 2-8 from this workbook and return on Friday or latest Monday.  If there is no associated lesson in the workbook they will have no homework for that night.  Not every lesson will have an associated worksheet.

Kinders – Your workbook is for your practice and are welcomed to use as parents/guardian sees fit.  Check their unit tests to see how they did and if you see their score is low then you might want to review with the worksheets for that unit.

Day 13

We started our day with pledge, prayer and calendar as we do most everyday.  It was then on to a lesson in Growth Mindset in Class Dojo.  The Magic of Mistakes.

I introduced both classes to Challenge Math.  Challenge Math, like IXL, allows a child to move at a faster pace and as the year goes on they will work in this medium (paper and pencil) from time to time.

We began our day with a little Go Noodle to get our engines running and a lesson in pirate talk. Arrrrrr!

Writing – Today I conducted a writing initial assessment or anchor paper to see where the children were at.  Pirates was the theme.

In class Dojo Mojo talked about the brain being a muscle and how we must exercise it.
In IXL math went over 2,000 questions answered.  Way to go.  Practice at home along with Raz-Kids books and Headsprouts phonics.

I sent Listening Dragon home with the first student.  They may have him/her for a whole week and return.  What you are suppose to do is in the book.  Have fun with her or him.  Take a picture, draw a picture and write about the experience. But above all read to Listening Dragon.  Our new writers may have help from the adults.

In their folder is an All About Me exercise to be done at home and returned to school.  Children will present to the class.  You may help with their writing for our new writers.

I have added an App on our iPads in school for Scratch Jr.,  Computer programming (coding) for kids.  A really neat program that is free and might be of interest to some of the kids.  Go to the website and watch the demonstration and/or download or read the guide to get them started.
