Tattle Tattle

Today we read Spring Weather.  In handwriting it was lowercase “t”, and a reading of the tattle jar for the week.  While we do not encourage tattling I would rather they write their tattle than just tell me.  Just so you know, a tattle is a problem that they should be able to work out and we talk about ways to work out little problems.  In phonics we did before and after sounds.  The children had music today.  We did not do math today as we had our monthly trip to the library with Mrs. Huber.  As a craft for the upcoming winter season we did snowmen which were almost entirely crafted from ripped up pieces of paper.

Recycling

In reading we read This Is My Bear.  For handwriting it was lowercase “w”.  I had them write their names again as another benchmark for their portfolio.  We finished our November memory books today and will start December next week.  The kids had Spanish today.  In math it was lesson 6-2 in Envision Math.  Many had problems grasping this introduction to estimating or what we call “about”.  It looks like it’s “about” 10.  They do this with at least one set of a known quantity and then using that information, and without counting, they look at other sets and write a number that is close to the known set.  Review their worksheet from today and you will get the idea.  This, like the concept of fewer and more, are sometimes difficult for young children to wrap their heads around.

We celebrated IXL math milestones

  • Alexcia – Has finished 1,500 questions
  • Tucker – Has finished 1,500 questions
  • Annie – 20 hours of work, 4,000 questions and 100% mastery of kindergarten math.  She will be moving on to 1st grade math in IXL.

In social studies we had a guest student teacher, Miss Rebecca, in to talk to the children about recycling and they created a new recycle bin for the classroom.
