104Reading – Book Flix – Miss Linda in to mentor read today

Math – Challenge Math – Some are on their second first grade challenge books.  Awesome.

The children had Spanish today and PE.  In Social Studies it was back to The Rain Forest as we learned more about its importance to our earth and what animals live in the emergent level (the tippy top).  We had a candidate in for the day (Jaycee), to check out Kindergarten

Celebrating Lola finishing 1,500 IXL problems.  Super-girl.

Reminder that next Tuesday is our class trip and while you are shopping this weekend bring in some snacks.  Enjoy your weekend.

The children had Art today.  As the sun was shining for a bit we recessed in some sunshine.  To prepare the class for Flat Stanley I read them the story today.  In Let’s Find Out it was all about the health of your teeth.

Math – Lesson 10-1 Making 11, 12, 13

The children had Movement today.  In Phonics we did a new blending lesson in Explode the Code. In Social Studies it was back to the forest for us as we learned about the emergent level  and each child created their own trees with leaves and vines as we start our Rain Forest motif in the hallway.

Reminder to gather a shoe box for our leprechaun traps in March.

Next Tuesday is our field trip to Flat Stanley.

Math – Intro to Unit 10 Composing Number 11 to 19

The children had Music today and worked on a Mother’s Day song for our Mother’s Day Tea.  In Science it was back to engineering with marshmallows and spaghetti.  Trial and error proved that working with triangles was the best way to construct a tower.  We finished our day with learning Centers with Miss Robin in to help with their writing while I worked with a group that will be moving onto “E” books in my guided reading group.

Today I introduced our new Social Studies unit The Rain Forest.  We will explore the rain forest and how important it is to life on earth.  We ended our day with Learning Centers.

99-1Reading – Today was BookFlix and Tumblebooks day.  Miss Linda in to mentor read today.

Math – Today is Math Challenge today with some challenging Kindergarten and 1st Grade Math going on.

The children had Spanish and PE today.  Today we finished our Presidents week with our current president Mr. Obama.  In Science we worked as teams to construct a beanstalk for Project Lead the Way.

The children had Art today.  We were off to the library for stories about Chinese New Year (Year of the Sheep).  Back in class for Social Studies we talked about the life of President Lincoln with some fun activities.

Math – Lesson 9-6  Making the numbers 8 and 9. The children had Movement today.  We started our February Memories entry.  Miss Suzanne’s class joined us for two fun Valentine’s Day crafts and they all exchanged cards and treats.

Reminder tomorrow is our Valentine’s Day party at the end of the day around 2:30.  As always you are always invited to come.  Also tomorrow, if you are free from 12:45 for some time please join me to help the children do the rose craft in Art tomorrow.  There is no school on Friday.

Math – Lesson 9-5 Making 8 & 9

The children had Music today.  After reviewing the story of Jack and the Beanstalk the children attempted to build the highest beanstalk they could using 10 long pipe cleaners with varying degrees of success.  Today was an on their own day with this activity with little help from me about design and structure.  In our next session I will talk more about what makes for a good sound structure.  We finished our day with Learning Centers
